Commissions
Cois Cladaigh takes an active role in commissioning
contemporary composers to write pieces for the choir. John Buckley,
Micheál Ó Súilleabháin, Hugh Kelly,
Marion Ingoldsby, Martin O'Leary, Peter Michael Hamel, Máire
Ní Dhubhir, Javier Busto and Jennifer Walshe are all composers
who have contributed to their repertoire.
Also, in 1994, Cois Cladaigh organised a visit to
Ireland by the contemporary New Zealand composer David Hamilton,
thereby commissioning a setting of the poem "Na Blátha
Creige" for SSATB choir.
For the 20th anniversary in 2002 Cois
Cladaigh commissioned a piece by the Basque Composer Javier Busto
called Txantxangorria.
In 2006 we commissioned Br. Ben Hoban and he chose the text (in Irish) of In
Paradisum. The work was premiered at the Cork Choral Festival 2007. Br. Ben Hoban's new SATB setting of his piece "Molaimis" will be premiered at the 2009 Cork festival.
Eamonn Murray wrote Still here for us in 2007 and has since set four more pieces based on the poetry of Langston Hughes.
Matthew Harris (USA) set three poems by William Carlos Williams for Cois Cladaigh which we performed at the Christmas Concert 2008. Contact was made with Tarik O'Regan (UK, living in USA) to write works for us and 2009.
Dottie Knauer arranged two J. S. Bach chorales - Wie schoen leuchtet der Morgenstern and In dulci iubilo - and this was first performed in St. Nicholas Collegiate Church on Nov 29th 2008.
Pauline Morgon wrote a work for the choir in 2008 and we hope to perform it soon.
